Hey Everyone,

So, I finally did it! Finally accomplished one of my big college goals, finally made it to the one spot in Philly I always wanted to check out! Yes ladies and gentlemen, I finally made it…to the PHILADELPHIA ZOO!!! Now I know what you’re thinking, kinda lame right? Well that’s totally incorrect and the Zoo is totally AWESOME! Especially when you get to check it out for free.

America's First Zoo!

The honors fraternity I’m involved in, Phi Sigma Pi, organized a service trip to the zoo to help with their event “Boo at the Zoo”.  It’s this really cool program where families can bring their kids to the zoo in costume to trick-or-treat.  We were split up into groups and assigned tables to hand out candy at.  Unfortunately, my group was assigned the granola bar table, so some of the kids were less than excited when they got up to our table.

The kids were absolutely adorable in their costumes and there were some really cute trends.  A lot of little boys were Iron Man or a pirate, and many of the girls were some kind of princess or lady bug.  My favorites were the infant’s costumes.  They were just huge plush costumes that the kids were wrapped in, so cute! ?I didn’t take any pictures of the kids, because that seemed a little creepy.

As a thank-you to all the volunteers, the zoo staff let us walk around and check out the rest of the zoo for free! I haven’t been to the zoo since I was in 4th grade, so I was pretty pumped to walk around and check out all of the animal exhibits.  The cool thing about going to the zoo this time of year is that the animals have become really used to people throughout the season and are really ok with just chilling against the glass.

They were right up by the glass!

Lion just chillin

He was just staring right back at us. How crazy is that?!

So adorable!

I was really excited to go around and check out all the different animals there, but I knew we all had to go down and see the giraffes.  Recently the Philadelphia Zoo welcomed a new baby Giraffe and let people go online and vote for her name.  The name Abigail won out and now she’s happily living in the zoo with her mother.  The two are beyond cute!

So, as cheesy as the trip may have been, I still had an awesome time and really enjoyed checking out all the wildlife.  Its a fun spot in Philly and definitely something you want to check out while in school.  Well, that’s all from me for now.  Till next time,

-Taylor
